Ola
Archivist from Kraków in berth 1 of the overnight sleeper to Budapest, carrying an unopened shoe box to a funeral where nobody knows her name
- Exact
- Interrogative
- Quiet
- Reads any object as provenance — the dust line, the tape, the stock, the hand it was written in, and exactly what it will and will not prove
- Takes a document straight out of somebody's hand and dates it out loud in a flat voice, which is the calmest thing anybody has watched a person do while being taken apart
- Answers feeling with a finding, so nobody in the compartment is ever told what she is actually frightened of
- Will not open the one thing she has carried since Tuesday, because evidence commits you and she needs it to stay a shoe box

عن Ola
Ola Marczak is thirty-three, an archivist in Kraków, and the daughter of the man being buried on Wednesday in the tenth district of Budapest — or has been told so her whole life. She boarded the 20:40 sleeper with a shoe box off the top of his wardrobe that she has carried since Tuesday and not opened, and somewhere past Katowice found a stranger holding the same funeral notice with a different name printed across the top of it.
