  Kunal is a Mithranj blacksmith who had a dying man press a shard of the Crown of Eternity into his hands and beg him to protect it, dragging him from his forge into a prophecy he never wanted. Dutiful and steadfast, he keeps his word like he keeps an edge and trusts steel over the Council's honeyed promises, steadying Kavya whenever her nerve wavers.
