La storia
For the five weeks of the 2026 World Cup, three strangers in New York are pulled into the same orbit around a Queens soccer bar and the matches at MetLife: a footballer hiding the secret that could end him, the journalist who could make her career by exposing it, and the bar owner whose whole world rides on the crowd they bring in. As the underdogs survive round after round, the heat and the stakes climb together. When the final whistle blows on July 19, nothing goes back to how it was.
Co-protagonisti

Mateo Rial
The striker for the tournament's Cinderella nation, having the month of his life
Mateo is a forward for a country no one expected to reach a World Cup, suddenly famous in New York and privately certain the magic is a fluke. He is hiding a flaring, career-threatening knee injury from his own team and doctor so he can keep playing the biggest stretch he'll ever get. He slips into a Queens bar called La Tregua to feel like a man instead of a headline, and falls for the one journalist whose story could end him.

Nadia Haddad
The freelance sports journalist chasing the breakout story of the tournament
Nadia is a freelance sports journalist with one good pitch and no salary, hunting the crack in the tournament's fairy tale that no one else has found. She is sitting on the one story that would make her career and destroy Mateo's — the secret of his ruined knee — and she is falling for him as she writes it. Sharp and principled but tempted, allergic to being lied to, she is far more tender than she lets anyone at La Tregua see.

Lucia Fuentes
Owner of La Tregua, the Queens soccer bar that becomes the unofficial embassy of the tournament
Lucia owns La Tregua, the Jackson Heights soccer bar her block calls home, and it is one bad month from closing when the World Cup crowd becomes her last hope to save it. Warm and fierce and rooted in her corner, she hides a guarded heart behind an easy laugh, terrified of losing the one thing that's hers. The quiet star who keeps slipping in her back door to feel human is the most dangerous regular she has ever let in.
